Olympic hope still alive for 2016

Birtwhistle will now train at hisWollongong base over the next month with his eyes firmly set on the next series race in the Japanese city Yokohama scheduledon May 14.

“Yokohama will be the final series race before Olympic selection closes,’’ he said.

“I know that yesterday’s race doesn’t accurately reflect where I’m at.

“I’m swimming better than I have ever before and I’m in pretty good shape at the moment.”

He said a big performance would comdown to the conditions on the day.

“That last spot…you never know how they (officials)will look at it,” he said

“I just have to keep doing as much as I can to put my name forward.

“I just need to do everything I can to get a good result in Yokohama and hopefully that can be enough.”
